Dr. Monique Burton launches this year’s UW Medicine & The Seattle Public Library Medical Library Lecture Series with “Play through Your Pain! How Much is Too Much?” 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Douglass-Truth Branch Library, 2300 E. Yesler Way.
More young people are participating in sports today than every before. Peer pressure and the economic and social forces exerted on winning may lead to decisions that are not in the best interests of a child’s health, growth and development. Young athletes have special needs. An awareness of these needs can better prepare children for the competitive pressures and physical injuries that occur with increased sports activities.
