Math Academy Friday and Saturday at UW Tacoma

Professional development for school district administrators, curriculum directors and math coaches will be the topic at the Math Leadership Academy, being held Friday and Saturday at UW Tacoma.


The two-day conference will feature several speakers, including John Sylvester, a UW Seattle professor of mathematics; Ronnie Ephraim, deputy superintendent of professional development for the Los Angeles Unified School District, and Russell Gersten, a member of the National Math Panel and executive director of the Instructional Research Group.


There will be several breakout sessions, including one on math coaching by Marcy Stein, an organizer of the event; and on evaluating and selecting math intervention programs by Diane Kinder, also a professor of education at UW Tacoma.


The academy is sponosored in part by a grant from the Higher Education Coordinating Board, UW Tacoma, the Puget Sound ESD and the Tukwila School District.
