EMBRACE offers a yearly series of workshops to all members of the campus community; topics can include culture and gender sensitivity, multiracial identity, racism, classism, heterosexism, age discrimination, religious diversity, disabled populations, and other topics that are pertinent to diverse populations.

Academic Programs

American Indian Studies -- develops theories, methodologies, and curriculum that increase knowledge about Indigenous peoples and support the needs of Indigenous communities

American Ethnic Studies -- engages both ethnic-specific and and comparative concepts, theories, and methods of inquiry in three curricular areas, African American Studies, Asian/Pacific American Studies, and Chicano Studies

Disability Studies -- provides opportunities through a minor and individualized major to develop a strong interdisciplinary foundation in the social, legal and political framing of disability

Women Studies -- provides a framework for understanding how questions of sexuality, race, disability, class, gender, age, and nationality affect the ways people live their lives and the environment and society at large

Diversity Minor -- designed to strengthen students’ understanding of how race, class, gender, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, religion, and age interact to define identities and social relations

Law, Society and Justice Program -- provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts education focusing on the unique forms of social control, institutionalized disputing, and justice associated with law or legality

Diversity Research Institute -- focuses on generating new, interdisciplinary knowledge about diversity, social justice, and institutional transformation

Center for Multicultural Education -- focuses on research projects and activities designed to improve practice related to equity issues, intergroup relations, and the achievement of all students

Center for Women’s Health and Gender Research -- Facilitates basic and clinical interdisciplinary research related to women's health across the lifespan, with biobehavioral and gender disparities core programs

Center for Women’s Welfare -- dedicated to research that influences contemporary policy issues of income inequality and economic opportunity, including tools to measure poverty and income inadequacy

Indigenous Welllness Research Institute -- supports the inherent rights of Indigenous peoples to achieve full and complete health and wellness by collaborating in decolonizing research and knowledge building and sharing
Institute for Ethnic Studies in the US -- encourages multi-disciplinary research on problems or issues pertaining to members of ethnic minority groups, particularly those living in the Pacific Northwest

Northwest Center to Reduce Oral Health Disparities -- performs research aimed at reducing oral health disparities in the Pacific Northwest

West Coast Poverty Center – advances research on poverty with a view toward engaging policy practitioners

 

Transforming the Curriculum

Center for Curriculum Transformation – supports curriculum development to incorporate new understandings about human diversity based in research on race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, sexuality and religion

Inclusive Teaching Website -- resources, examples, insights from faculty and students about what hinders teaching and strategies for inclusive teaching

Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology (DO-IT) Program – provides accessibility resources for students, faculty, and staff members.

Information School Curriculum Transformation Project  -- resources for developing course content and practices that promote understanding of diversity and builds inclusiveness in the learning environment, with a focus on American Indian and Alaska Native populations

Intergroup Dialogue, Education, and Action (IDEA) Center – supports University and community efforts that address issues of oppression, empowerment, and alliance building for social justice
