2012 Diversity Award for Community Building

The University of Washington Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Award for Community Building is presented annually at the Multicultural Alumni Partnership (MAP) Bridging the Gap Breakfast to a University of Washington student, staff member or faculty member, or community organization whose efforts toward positive change on campus have resulted in multicultural community building.

2012 Recipient - Seattle Fandango Project

Cynthia del Rosario

A community-based organization that collaborates with UW individuals and programs, the Seattle Fandango Project (SFP) practices convivencia—being together in community—through participatory music, verse, and dance, in the fandango tradition of Veracruz.  SFP builds relationships with diverse groups in Seattle and with fandango practitioners from other parts of the U.S. and Mexico, promoting joy, healing, and social activism, and providing a welcoming space for families to make music together.

Please visit the SFP website to learn more.
