Service leads here

For these four alumni, the values of service and leadership are like the North Star: They are always above the horizon guiding their way.

Students are undergraduates for only a few short years, yet the experiences and lessons they learn have lifelong implications. Through the University of Washington’s Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center, students engage across a constellation of programming to develop the leadership skills needed to work with and in communities across the region. The CELE Center is the University’s North Star when it comes to preparing students to be the intelligent, compassionate and ethical leaders our communities and our democracy demands.

CELE Center’s programming is rooted in the values of learning from our communities, engaging in democratic and civic discourse and in the support of students’ self-empowerment as leaders. The reciprocal relationship between learning in the classroom and one’s community impact work exists to nurture leaders intent on creating more just, equitable and thriving communities.

These four Huskies arrived at the UW knowing they wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves. Through the CELE Center, they found just that: a home for deep learning and meaningful community engagement. They learned what it means to align within a community to create positive impacts for the greater good. CELE Center alumni contribute across all sectors, industries and vantage points, serving and leading alongside those cultivating equity and opportunity for all.
