Clean Energy Institute

The Clean Energy Institute (CEI) was founded in 2013, with funds from the state of Washington, to accelerate the adoption of a scalable clean-energy future that will improve the health and economy of our state, nation and world. The Institute serves as a hub for learning, innovation and enabling pathways to the market through open-access facilities such as the Washington Clean Energy Testbeds. In 2018, the state allocated $20 million to the UW to build the Center for Advanced Materials and Clean Energy Technologies (CAMCET), housing CEI and the Northwest Institute for Materials Physics, Chemistry and Technology (NW IMPACT), a joint collaboration between the UW and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).
