Real DAWGS Read

Readers are leaders!

Real Dawgs Read is a summer reading program developed for K-8, Title I schools in Washington state. There is no cost to schools or participants (postage is covered); it is simply a way to incent students to read over the summer. Participants read at least 20 minutes a day on 30 separate days to earn a Husky reward and reading certificate.

To give this program wider reach, we’ve made some changes for 2024. Printed journals will be available to only Title I elementary schools that opt in—invitations were sent to school principals in late March. If you are a Title I elementary school principal and want to participate, email us to make sure we have your current contact information. Any K-8 Washington state student may participate online. Come back to this page in mid-May to learn more.

Over the years, UW licensees Zephyr Headwear, Logo Brands, Captivating Headwear and Strideline Socks have donated merchandise which rewards successful readers.

This program is possible because of generous support from AT&T and Starbucks.

Start reading today! Books, comic books, magazines, newspapers — YOU choose. Read alone, read aloud, read with friends, have someone read to you. Just read, and you’ll be dressed like a Dawg in no time!
