Help shape the University of Washington’s next chapter through the strategic planning process

Dear UW Community,

We are pleased to share with you a key milestone in our University’s strategic planning process: the draft University-wide strategic plan for everyone in our community to have the opportunity to review and help refine, as well as a video that provides the context and overview regarding this important process.

As the first comprehensive UW strategic plan developed in about 15 years, the plan is meant to help shape a collective strategic vision for the UW, guide priorities and investments, and align our work across our schools and colleges, three campuses and UW Medicine. It builds on the extraordinary achievements of the past while focusing our collective efforts on where we can create the most impact and best serve the people of Washington, the nation and the world over the next five years and beyond.

Considerable and invaluable effort has already gone into this plan — from the planning committee, the broader UW community and the strategic planning work that has already been done at the unit level. But now we are asking our entire community of faculty, staff and students to take part in the next phase of the process. We are sharing the plan as a draft because we want to hear from you.

As the primary approach, we encourage you to review the draft and work together at the unit level to discuss it and provide collective feedback that strengthens our shared vision for the UW. You can also provide your input through a survey.

Our best work as a public research university and health-care system is always done through thoughtful collaboration. That is why your ideas and perspectives are vital to finalizing the plan later this spring. Thank you for helping shape the University of Washington’s next chapter.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Jones
