Wishing you a happy new year with gratitude and joy

Dear UW Community,

As we conclude the autumn quarter with this season of joy and gratitude, I want to offer my sincere thanks to you and everyone in our incredible Husky community. This fall marked my first four months as UW president, and the warm welcome we have received from Huskies all across Washington and beyond has been deeply meaningful to Lynn and me. You have embraced us with kindness and generosity, and we are truly grateful.

Above all, I have been impressed and energized by all the people who make this University great. From chatting with students in the coffee line at Suzzallo, to the many thoughtful conversations with people in Seattle, Bothell, Tacoma, Spokane and throughout Washington, to meeting alumni and supporters around the country, I have been inspired by the commitment to our shared purpose of expanding educational access, sparking new discoveries and improving people’s lives. Every day, I see how we are serving the greater good together. Whether you are earning a degree that will change your life or contributing to the public service mission that changes the lives of others, you make the UW a world-class institution. I am so proud to be part of this remarkable community.

What I most look forward to in the new year is working with you to build and accelerate the incredible impact we create here in Washington and beyond. Our world is facing big challenges, and as students, faculty and staff, we are uniquely equipped to meet those challenges in ways that serve the public good, together. However you enjoy this holiday season — whether as a time of celebration, reflection or connection with loved ones — Lynn and I hope the weeks ahead bring you joy and renewal.

Sincerely,
