Expertise: Glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica, global sea-level rise
Ian Joughin is a glaciologist at the UW’s Applied Physics Laboratory and the Polar Science Center, as well as an affiliate professor in the Department of Earth & Space Sciences. His research focuses primarily on the surface motion and topography of ice fields. Currently, he is working to determine how the flow of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets will contribute to current and future rates of sea level change.
