The annual #IHeartUWLibraries student video contest is an opportunity to showcase your creative talents while helping to promote the best of UW Libraries’ people, places, resources and programs.

1st Place

“Our Second Home” by Ken Kavin

This film follows the daily lives of UW affiliated individuals and highlights the idea that the UW Libraries truly are “Our Second Home.” The provision of endless resources and spaces allows the UW Libraries to be an integral part of your lives.

2nd Place

“The Student’s Guide to the Libraries” by Carlos Alvarez

The UW Libraries has an endless supply of resources to assist students on their academic journey. The stunning production quality and informative content encourages viewers to utilize the UW Libraries resources for research, assistance on essays, and for their overall success at the University of Washington.

3rd Place

“#HashtagUWLibrary” by Zijie Chen

You can truly feel the #LOVE from this film! Between the wide array of visual shots and short-but-sweet responses from participants, the love for the UW Libraries radiates through and out of this video.

The visuals tell it all, in this film! With the use of motion graphics and highly digitalized production, everything you need to know about the UW Libraries’ available resources is on the screen.

“UW Library Video Games” by Nina Okubo

This creative submission highlights a resource offered by the UW Libraries that is not often discussed. In addition to providing academic support, the UW Libraries also offers recreational resources for students. This lighthearted film uses creative graphics to share the availability of UW Libraries for activities beyond the scope of academics.

About the #IHeartUWLibraries Student Video Contest

This annual student video contest is an opportunity for students to express their appreciation for the UW Libraries AND win some extra cash! Generous support to the Libraries Excellence Fund makes this exciting opportunity possible for our Huskies.

Awards:

  • Long Form video (Video submission 45-60 seconds)*
    • $1500 1st Place
    • $1000 2nd Place
    • $500 3rd Place

*you can use any video creation platform to create a video, including Tik Tok for this category.  See submission instructions and tools for how to upload/submit.

Rules:

  • UW undergraduate or graduate students are eligible from the Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma campuses. Applicants must be enrolled/active at the time videos are submitted.
  • Video must meet the time criteria for the specified category (long form 45-60 seconds max).
  • One submission per student, per category
  • Video must be original content
  • Video production (filming) must not violate the Libraries code of conduct or specific Libraries policies
  • Videos must be in mp4 format.
  • Additional release forms must be submitted for any other students featured in the video. It is the responsibility of the student applicant to secure release forms on behalf of all individuals featured in the video
  • By signing the release form, UW Libraries has rights to the video in perpetuity and may use the video for public communication and marketing
  • By signing the release form, you agree to give copies of editable files as Libraries may choose to use all or part of submitted videos to create new/original content.
