UW Medicine vaccination requirement update (Message to UW Medicine personnel)

This message was sent to UW Medicine personnel.

To the UW Medicine Community:

For the safety of our patients, visitors and staff, UW Medicine is requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or claim an exemption no later than Friday, September 10. This requirement aligns with UW’s broader campus policy for faculty, other academic personnel, staff, trainees and student employees.

UW Medicine and the University are required to track your vaccination status.

UW Medicine employees should follow this process:

  • If you were already vaccinated with UW Medicine through the employee process, no action is needed.
  • If you were vaccinated through the UW Medicine patient process via Epic or at another healthcare location, you will need to submit proof of your vaccination using the link to our scheduling portal:

All UW School of Medicine employees should complete the vaccine attestation process in Workday.

  • School of Medicine clinical employees should complete both the UW Medicine and Workday vaccination attestations.

We are asking for your cooperation in achieving 100% compliance with this COVID-19 prevention campaign — just as we do every year with the influenza prevention program. You may, however, claim an exemption for medical or non-medical (such as religious or philosophical) reasons. A medical exemption requires a note from a provider while a non-medical exemption (such as religious or philosophical) requires the completion of an educational presentation. Additional monitoring of unvaccinated personnel may be necessary if case counts continue to increase.

Vaccine scheduling and exemption claims can also be completed on our scheduling portal: In the coming weeks, leaders will receive reports to help them track compliance on their teams. More information to come.

We are grateful that most UW Medicine employees already are fully vaccinated. If you have not yet made your first-dose appointment, we encourage you to do so. In keeping with public health guidance, UW Medicine will continue to require face masks in our hospitals, clinics and other clinical environments regardless of vaccination status.

Vaccines remain our most effective tool for ending the pandemic and maintaining a work environment that is safe for patients, visitors and staff. Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment.
