This 9th annual event for both adults and children features opportunities to talk with glaciologists, biologists, climate experts and others from the UW Applied Physics Laboratory and its Polar Science Center as well as numerous interactive activities and displays that include local artists, photographers and zookeepers who focus on polar environments.

From March 1 – 7, Department of Communication Chair David Domke is leading a group of students, staff and faculty on a Civil Rights Pilgrimage across the southern United States to landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and ’60s. Penguins as Ocean Sentinels

The fifth in a series of free public lectures on the Future of Ice will take place this Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30 pm with a discussion of the challenges facing penguins and their uncertain future in the wake of a changing climate. Register now.
Somali refugee experience in Seattle explored

On Monday, March 3, UW African Studies will present “In Search of Nabad”, an intimate documentary by Sorayya Aminian, ’11, about Seattle’s Somali refugees and their search for peace in their new home. Screens at 3:30 pm in the Allen Library auditorium followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.
Burke Museum locates original Seahawks mask

After reading a Burke Museum blog post, the Hudson Museum at the University of Maine contacted them about a British Columbia Kwakwaka’wakw mask believed to be the inspiration for the original Seahawks logo.
