Celebrate Black History Month
February is the perfect month to visit the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) in the Central District. Brian J. Carter, a graduate of the UW’s Museology Program, is its education director and five other staff members hail from the UW College of Arts and Sciences. NAAM is featured in the Central Seattle web portal of the new UW in Your Community website spotlighting neighborhoods throughout Seattle.
UW leads in connecting scholarship with community
A Certificate in Public Scholarship program from the Simpson Center for the Humanities is among the first in the country devoted to creating graduate level research that gives back to the public.
College presidents at Town Hall on Wednesday
The Greater Good Campaign will host a conversation with the state’s six four-year university presidents (including President Young, above) and three key business leaders this Wednesday at 7 pm at Seattle Town Hall. Topic: what it means for Washington citizens to have a high-quality, well-funded higher-education system and the risks of continued cuts.
UW English professor hits big screen
Ready to talk about something besides snow? “Americanese”, the film version of UW English Professor Shawn Wong’s novel “American Knees”, will be shown at the SIFF Cinema Uptown in lower Queen Anne at 7 pm Tuesday, January 24. Wong and director Eric Byler will speak at the screening. (University of Washington Press has rereleased the novel.)
