The UWAA believes in the transformative impact an organized community of alumni and friends can make. In October, 2019, we were delighted to welcome corporate partner AT&T and its Believe Seattle program to our campus. Together we created real, positive change for our local communities.

Supporting students in need

Held on Oct. 13, Alaska Airlines Dawg Dash is the UWAA’s signature campus fun run, raising tens of thousands of dollars for student scholarships each year. This year, AT&T partnered with the UWAA to offer a new way to help students in need by administering a donation drive to collect soap, toothpaste and personal care items. Together, AT&T, the UWAA and Dawg Dashers collected more than 200 pounds of supplies for the UW Food Pantry. Perhaps even more importantly, awareness was raised about this important issue facing students within the Husky community.

Social justice through storytelling

At their 25th anniversary celebration breakfast, the Multicultural Alumni Partnership (MAP) announced a bold new initiative to magnify the stories of social justice leaders who show up for their communities through mentorship, advocacy and storytelling. Over the next year, MAP will highlight the stories of 25 “MAP Influencers” and celebrate their accomplishments on the MAP website and other communications. Through their Believe Seattle initiative, AT&T has donated $25,000 to MAP in honor of the 25 MAP Influencers. MAP board of trustees member Mariama Suwaneh, ’17, expressed her thanks in her remarks at the breakfast: “We couldn’t be more excited for what this next year holds as we highlight this incredible cohort of individuals.”

Thanks, AT&T

Through their generous support, AT&T has helped the UWAA implement new ways to build a stronger, more connected community of UW alumni and students. We are grateful for their partnership. Thank you, AT&T!
