Q’s Corner: Notes from the International Trustee

Lee, Kyu C

To our Husky family worldwide,

I hope this letter finds you well. Whether you are in the Seattle Area or elsewhere around the world, we have all been affected by COVID-19 and the policies being put in place to combat it. I know, the shelter-in-place orders issued across the world have impacted us in different ways: from canceling events and conducting virtual meetings to working from home.

Despite the challenges we continue to face, the UWAA has stepped up efforts to stay in touch with alumni of all ages, all over the world. I want to make sure that our alumni are connected during this uncertain time to provide positive support — personally and professionally.

Here are just a few of the ways that we’ve been helping Huskies make those connections. Leaders from our international communities gathered for a casual happy hour via Zoom that took place at the end of April. We caught up at home with drinks and updates on how each of us have been managing our current situation.

Many alumni participated in mentoring at a distance through programs that include Huskies@Work. In that program, alumni and students fill out applications and are matched based on career field and interests. Together, they decide the date and time that works for both of them and the day’s activities. The spring session was fully virtual which allowed people from anywhere in the world to participate.

Finally, the UWAA has put together an impressive list of ways to engage virtually on their Stronger Together page. From live streams to scavenger hunts, it’s full of ways to connect to campus no matter where you live.

I personally value connections with our alumni and I know our alumni value those connections as well. I am confident that, by standing together as a community, we will emerge from this moment stronger and more resilient. Thank you, again, for the actions you are each taking to support the well-being of all. I look forward to seeing all of you very soon, be it virtually or in person in the very near future. Go Huskies!

Sending my best,

Kyu
