What a year it has been! From Vancouver to Yakima to Walla Walla, from Rome to Tokyo and back to Seattle, I’ve had the honor of representing the UW Alumni Association literally all over the world. At every stop along the way, I’ve met incredible alumni with a passion for our University and a sincere desire to deepen their relationship to the UW and take action on its behalf.

There’s no better example of what we can accomplish when we work together than this year’s successful legislative session. Through UW Impact, our legislative advocacy effort, Huskies in 48 out of 49 legislative districts contacted their legislators and made their voices heard in support for higher education in the state of Washington. We saw double-digit increases in the number of engaged alumni advocates, as measured by their emails, letters and calls to Olympia. This kind of engagement by you, our loyal alumni, truly builds a legacy for future generations of UW students.

As we prepare to welcome thousands of new graduates into our thriving community, I think back to events like this year’s Rose Bowl Game. Alumni near and far converged on Pasadena in support of the University and our student athletes. I invite you to consider strengthening your connection with the UWAA by participating in our programs like Huskies@Work and Career Treks. Both programs connect alumni to UW students, offering a glimpse into how a Husky experience can continue to have an impact long after graduation.

In 2019, we hope you join us: attend a lecture, run in Dawg Dash, or attend a Warm Up before a football game. There are so many ways to engage!

As I enter my final weeks as UWAA Board President, I can’t help but reflect on a year that can only be considered an blessing and a privilege. I am confident in the future success of our organization and hope you will join me in welcoming incoming president Aggie Clark, ’86, ’99 as she prepares to lead us into the next year.

None of this would be possible without you – our members – and your deep commitment to the UWAA. Thank you.

Go Dawgs!
