This free event will feature remarks and an audience Q&A with University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce and UW Tacoma Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange, ’00, ’06. UWAA President Joe Davis, ’16, the first UW Tacoma grad to serve in that role, will also deliver remarks.

A professor of psychology and American Ethnic Studies, Ana Mari Cauce has been a member of the UW faculty since 1986. She became the UW’s 33rd president in 2015, having previously served in many leadership positions, including provost and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Throughout her career, she has been a staunch advocate for women and underrepresented minorities in STEM and for ensuring access to affordable, excellent higher education. Cauce earned her B.A. in English and psychology from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. in psychology from Yale University. She has received numerous awards for her teaching, scholarship and advocacy, including the James M. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Psychological Association and the UW Distinguished Teaching Award.

Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange was appointed to serve as Chancellor of the University of Washington Tacoma in September 2021. As the chief executive officer of the campus she provides leadership on all campus matters. She has a wide range of experience in higher education administration and has been a leading advocate for diversity and inclusion throughout her career.

Joe Davis was born in Illinois and raised in Arizona, and enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school. His military career included Advance Individual Training at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, completion of the rigorous Human Intelligence program, deployment to Iraq and being stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. As a civilian, he subsequently worked as an EMT before becoming a Deputy Sheriff with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Joe also finds time to volunteer with and consult for various non-profits throughout the region and on behalf of UW.
