National Museum of the American Indian
You’re invited to a special, after hours gathering at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI).
Our guest of honor is iSchool assistant professor Miranda Belarde-Lewis, ’07, ’11, ’13, (Zuni/Tlingit) who curated the NMAI exhibit “Raven and the Box of Daylight.” Miranda will be in DC to attend the American Library Association Annual Conference (ALA).
We’re extending this invitation to other Huskies and special guests attending ALA, as well as UW alumni and friends from the DC area. Please join us to hear Miranda’s insights into the development of the exhibit and learn more about her favorite pieces.
The exhibit features the works of acclaimed glass artist Preston Singletary and tells the story of Raven, creator of the world and giver of the stars, moon and sun. You’ll take an immersive journey through striking glass pieces and storytelling paired with original music, Pacific Northwest soundscapes and projected imagery.
Our reception will also include drinks and appetizers. We hope you’ll join us for this evening of education, art and Husky community.
Registration is free but space is limited so be sure to RSVP today!
Please note, the Smithsonian is now requiring all participants to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test. Face coverings are optional. Our staff and volunteers will be vaccinated and masked.
