Arts Roundup: Music, dance – and exhibit openings

With the start of spring quarter brings a fresh lineup of exciting events to attend on the Seattle campus. From the opening of a new exhibit, “Wynne Greenwood: Notes on Tracy + the Plastics,” at the Henry Art Gallery to Ballet Genève presented by the UW World Series, begin this quarter on the right foot and step up your arts game.

Burke Trivia Night at the College Inn Pub

The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture presents a monthly pub quiz for science buffs, culture gurus and museum lovers. Bring your friends and test your knowledge of the natural world. Teams are limited to six players. More info.

Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève
April 3–5 | Meany Theater
Appearing in Seattle for the first time, Ballet Genève will perform the evening-length Preludes et Fugues by acclaimed Israeli choreographer Emanuel Gat, a reflection on human interaction set to Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier performed to live, solo piano. More info.

Wynne Greenwood: Notes on Tracy + the Plastics
April 5- June 15 | Henry Art Gallery
Greenwood, a Seattle artist and musician, presents a new video archive of her multimedia project “Notes on Tracy + the Plastics.” From 1999 to 2006 Greenwood developed a series of performances in which she played all three members of a feminist electro-punk band.This archive and performance project is an attempt to both analyze and preserve the artist’s earlier work, as well as to revisit and re-evaluate it in relation to the context of contemporary queer politics. Korean sisters Soo-Jin Hong and Soo-Kyung Hong and Danish pianist Jens Elvekjaer are the winners of  several prestigious awards and competitions including the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, one of the most coveted in the world of chamber music. Critics have praised them for their “sparkling joie de vivre” and “magic dialogue.” The Trio belongs unquestionably to the upper echelons of young chamber ensembles performing today. More info.

An Evening of Art and Conversation: Northwest Art and Artists
April 10 | Henry Art Gallery
The Henry and the Junior League of Seattle partner to host an evening of art and conversation about the rich history of Northwest art. Artworks by Northwest artists from the Henry’s collection will be on view in the Eleanor Henry Reed Collection Study Center.  More info.

Jared Diamond: The Future of the ‘Third Chimpanzee’
April 10 | Room 130, Kane Hall
The Burke Museum partners with Town Hall Seattle to present this scientist and author. Among Diamond’s many awards are the National Medal of Science, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, Japan’s Cosmo Prize, a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, and the Lewis Thomas Prize Honoring the Scientist as Poet, presented by Rockefeller University. His book “Guns, Germs, and Steel” was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. More info.
