Elkon receives lupus research award

Keith Elkon, UW professor of medicine and head of the division of rheumatology, recently received a 2009 Kirkland Scholar Award from the Mary Kirkland Center for Lupus Research. The center — based in New York City — supports outstanding nationally recognized senior scientists, and aims to contribute to the development of new lupus therapies and improve the lives of patients with lupus.

Elkon, who is also an adjunct professor of immunology, will receive funding for a three-year term to support the training of promising fellows and students in lupus research. The Kirkland Scholar Program is funded by Rheuminations, Inc. To learn more about the award, visit http://www.hss.edu/mary-kirkland-scholar-program.asp.
