Panel Oct. 16 considers energy policy priorities for the next administration
The day after the final presidential debate, energy experts will gather on the UW campus for a discussion of “U.S. Energy Policy: Priorities for the Next Administration.”
Four panelists — a scientist, public policy expert, economist and petroleum industry representative — will discuss the issues and take audience questions from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in 130 Kane. The event is free, open to the public and does not require advance registration. It is organized by the Forum on Science Ethics and Policy, a group of UW graduate students and post-doctoral researchers trying to promote discussion within the academic community and with the general public about ethical and political concerns surrounding scientific issues.
KUOW’s Steve Scher, host of Weekday, will be the moderator. Panelists are: scientist Tom Ackerman, director of the Joint Institute for the Study of Atmosphere and Ocean at the UW; policy analyst David Goldston, former chief of staff of the U.S. House Committee on Science, project director at the Bipartisan Policy Center and Nature magazine columnist; economist Joshua Linn, assistant professor, University of Illinois at Chicago and executive director, MIT Study of the Future of Solar Energy (on leave 2008-2009 from the University of Illinois); and industry representative Tom Zimmerman, National Petroleum Council and Schlumberger Ltd., a supplier of technology, project management and information systems to the oil and gas industry.
