Pianist Jade Simmons makes Seattle debut

The UW World Series opens its 2008-09 President’s Piano solo recital series at 8 p.m. tonight with the Seattle debut of charismatic pianist Jade Simmons. Simmons is a versatile performer whose passion and unique communicative powers creatively infuse every project she undertakes.

Simmons has appeared in concert with the Dallas Symphony, collaborated with renowned pianist Ursula Oppens and debuted on Ravinia’s Rising Stars series. Her upcoming performances include New York engagements performing for the Cliburn at the Modern series and with the ensemble An Die Musik at the Kaufman Center Merkin Concert Hall.

For her performance at Meany Hall, Simmons will premiere her program My Americana, a collection of American piano works ranging from Gershwin to Corigliano and beyond.

Tickets are $34, $31 for subscribers and $20 for students.

Ticket-holders are invited to come early to learn more about the program at an informal, free pre-show talk beginning at 7:10 p.m. The talk takes place in the main auditorium and lasts about 30 minutes.
