Double bass concert set for April 27

Spencer Hoveskeland will perform on double bass accompanied by pianist Rie Ando in a concert in the Barry Lieberman and Friends series at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Brechemin Auditorium.

Hoveskeland and his wife, Traci, comprise the popular bass and cello group The Bottom Line Duo. He has composed, recorded and arranged music for the duo for 14 years, recording six CDs along the way. The duo tours internationally.

The concert will feature Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsy Korsokov; Concerto #3 in A and Gigue from Concerto #1 by Domenico Dragonetti; Tango En La by Astor Piazzolla; Hora Stacatto by Grigoras Dinicu; and Fantasy Based on Bellini’s La Sonnambula by Giovanni Bottesini.

Hoveskeland also will give a free master class at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, in the auditorium.

Ando is a doctoral student in the UW School of Music, which sponsors the concert. She holds a master’s degree in piano performance from Western Washington University.
