Contemporary Group to perform Feb. 12

The UW Contemporary Group will perform music by Claude Debussy, William Albright, Olivier Messiaen, and Gerard Grisey in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 in Meany Theater. The program includes Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp; Albright’s Take That for four players and 16 drums; excerpts from Messiaen’s Vingt Regards Sur l’Enfant-Jesus for solo piano; and Grisey’s Vortex Temporum I and II for flute, clarinet, piano, violin, viola and cello, with student artist Julia Tai conducting.

Under the direction of Joel-Francois Durand, the UW School of Music Contemporary Group explores the notation and performance problems in contemporary music, and presents several new music concerts on campus each year.
