White named new associate dean

Dr. Emily White has been appointed associate dean for research in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine.

She succeeds Dr. Dave Eaton, who has been named an associate vice provost for research at the UW.

White received a master’s degree in biostatistics and a Ph.D. in epidemiology, both from the UW.

She is a professor of epidemiology and served as interim chair of the department in 1998-99. She is also a member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

White’s research focuses on epidemiologic methods, cancer prevention, vitamin supplements and cancer, mammography, and the origins of several cancers — breast, colorectal, bladder, and melanoma.

She will continue her research and teaching obligations while serving 30 percent time in her new role as associate dean.
