Dworkin receives award from American Pain Society
Dr. Samuel Dworkin, professor emeritus of oral medicine and of psychiatry, has been selected to receive the Wilbert E. Fordyce Clinical Investigator Award from the American Pain Society. The award is presented to a pain-research professional whose total career achievements have contributed significantly to clinical practice.
Fordyce, a psychologist, was a longtime UW faculty member who helped found the first multidisciplinary pain clinic at the UW. He was one of the first clinicians to identify behavioral and emotional factors that are responsible for much of the suffering of chronic pain patients.
Dworkin’s research has focused on chronic pain, particularly temporomandibular joint pain. He will receive the award at the Pain Society annual meeting in May.
