The “Hungry for the Holidays” Food Drive to benefit the University District Food Bank is in full swing on campus. This is the 22nd year that the UW community has supported the food bank by collecting donations at various locations on campus.
In 2004, the food bank provided 1.3 million pounds of supplemental groceries to 39,615 households, 8 percent more than in 2003. About 2 percent of their clients are infants and another 20 percent are children. The bank’s service area is the six zip codes constituting Northeast Seattle.
More than 95 percent of the food the bank distributes is donated.
Donations to the food bank should be non-perishable — canned meats, fruits and vegetables, powdered and evaporated milk, dry cereals, peanut butter, etc.
