Motivation expert to give teaching forum Nov. 3

Marilla Svinicki, associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, will be the speaker at the Quarterly Forum on Teaching and Learning, scheduled for 2 p.m. (a different time than originally announced) Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Walker Ames Room, Kane. Svinicki will talk about how the research on learning and motivation can inform teaching.

Drawing on her recent book, Learning and Motivation in Postsecondary Classrooms, and on her work with Bill McKeachie on the latest edition of Teaching Tips, Svinicki is directly involved in research on the relationship between teaching and learning and will translate some of the most recent theories and findings into practical actions that any instructor can take to enhance student learning.

Svinicki has been the president of the Professional and Organizational Development Network twice and a leader in the field of faculty development for 30 years. She is the editor in chief of New Directions for Teaching and Learning, a leading publication that melds theory and research with practice in higher education .
