Boaters’ opinions wanted for survey

Sailors, kayakers, power boaters and fishermen are needed to help staff at the Applied Physics Laboratory design a system to benefit them. The Boater Information System will provide boaters with weather and oceanographic information on a Web portal that they can tailor to their own needs.

According to Janet Olsonbaker, technical research coordinator at APL, boaters will be able to use the finished system to key in their coordinates, the kind of boat they have and the time they plan to be on the water and get the information for the trip.

APL is currently running a survey to help them as they build a prototype Boater Information System. To participate, log on to http://bis.apl.washington.edu/.  The system is funded by Washington Sea Grant.
