FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about the UW

Q: Everyday for the past many, many months I walk by the drained fountain with the chain link fence around it. I never see anyone working on this. Is this a budget problem? Can you let the campus know what’s going on?

A: The repair plan has been completed and the work schedule is now in place. The repairs should start this week.

UW Engineering Services has been working with numerous vendors to develop a straightforward repair. A patch material will be applied to all the cracks, which will be flexible enough to seal the leaks and deal with any expansion and contraction problems.

Facilities Alterations unit will be performing the work after rainwater is drained and the weather cooperates. Some piping work will also be completed at the same time. Our goal is to perform a fix that will be reasonable in cost yet do the job and last until a permanent re-design of the fountain can be funded and constructed.

It is still our intention that the fountain will be operating by mid May.

University Week welcomes questions from faculty and staff regarding policies and practices of campus service units.

Timely questions of broad campus interest will be given preference for publication. Questions should be brief and include the name and UW unit of the writer.

The published version of questions will be unsigned because they may be a compilation of questions from many sources. However, the answers will be signed by the appropriate unit head.

All questions considered for publication will be referred to the appropriate department for a response. All copy will be edited by University Week editors for readability, length and style.
