E-Learning subscriptions available Dec. 2

UW Training and Development (T&D) is providing another way for staff and faculty to access professional and personal development. In addition to its traditional classes, T&D now offers annual e-Learning subscriptions with access to hundreds of online courses.

A key benefit of an e-Learning subscription, says T&D director Beth Warrick, is that needed knowledge is available “anytime, just-in-time,” so people who have trouble attending a regular class at a given time and place can participate.

After registering with T&D, an e-Learning subscriber uses his or her unique log-in ID and password at any computer with Internet access as a gateway to more than 700 online courses. Courses are organized in a menu of relevant topics, and most require only one to four hours to complete.

Content areas range from Professional Effectiveness to Business and Information, with many pertinent titles in each section.

An e-Learning subscription will be a pre-requisite for T&D’s new Linked Learning offerings, which combine “instructor-led” (classroom training) and online sessions. Starting in the Winter 2003 quarter, several existing T&D courses will convert to Linked Learning, including some in T&D’s Supervisory, Communications, and Human Resources certificates. Warrick says that some classes in T&D’s UW Fiscal Management Certificate classes already involve online UW policy content, and this format has proven effective.

E-learning is also affordable. “Most T&D ‘instructor-led’ classes now range from $75 to $150 per person,” Warrick says. “At a subscription rate of $110 per year, or lower in group rates, e-Learning subscribers can take any of the online courses listed. Even if a subscriber takes just one e-Learning course per month, the average cost of less than $10 per course is still an excellent value.”

Registration for annual e-Learning subscriptions starts Dec. 2 at www.washington.edu/admin/hr/traindev/elearning/  with first-year subscriptions active through Dec. 31, 2003. Learn more about e-Learning at free information sessions:
