A Nobel moment

Leland Hartwell, center, smiles as he enjoys the banquet for winners of the Nobel Prize in Stockholm, Sweden. Hartwell, a UW professor of genome sciences and president and director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, shared the prize in medicine with two British scientists for research on yeast genetics. With Hartwell are Shan Mullin, chair of the FHCRC Board of Trustees, left, and UW President Richard L. McCormick. Hartwell received his prize from Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustav in special ceremonies Monday. He is the fifth UW faculty member to win a Nobel.
