University of Washington
Campus Master Plan
In 2003, the University completed work on a Campus Master Plan that will guide future
development of the Seattle campus. The plan determines how the Seattle campus can grow
over the next decade and beyond in response to increasing student enrollment and research
demands, while preserving the beauty of its physical environment and minimizing any
impacts on its neighbors.

and process that led to this plan.

2002 Annual Report - UW
General Physical Development Plan [ PDF ]
This document was the eleventh and final report following the Board of Regents' May 1992
approval of the University of Washington General Physical Development Plan (GPDP).
This report was prepared in accordance with Section IID of the1998 City-University
Agreement before it was amended in 2003 and 2004. It provided current information on
University development projects and their environmental impacts as a result of changes to
the proposed development schedule set forth in the 1991-2001 University of Washington
GPDP. It also provided current data and plans concerning traffic and parking.
City/University Agreement
In 1998, the City and University entered into an agreement to govern campus master planning and
off-campus leasing. This agreement marked an important step in maintaining good relations
with our neighbors and city government.
In 2003, this agreement was amended ( Ordinance 121193) to allow more off-campus leasing and change reporting requirements. This amendment acknowledges the important role the University can play in revitalizing the University District. Read the City's press release on this important change.
Following a ruling by the Growth Management Hearings Board, the City Council passed a new ordinance ( Ordinance 121688), on November 29, 2004, amending the 1998 agreement.
U-Pass
Reports
The University is committed to reducing the impacts of traffic on surrounding
neighborhoods and providing transportation alternatives for faculty, staff and students.
The University's award-winning U-Pass program has eliminated more than 74 million car
trips to and from campus since 1991. Today, 75 percent of the campus population commutes
by bus, carpool, vanpool, biking, walking or other alternative transportation modes
instead of driving alone.
Autumn 2003 Faculty-Staff
Housing Survey Results [ PDF ]
The University of Washington is encouraging the property development community to offer
expanded rental and for-sale housing options near the Seattle Campus that would appeal to
UW faculty and Staff. The autumn 2003 Housing Survey was conducted to evaluate interest
among faculty and staff in various housing options - specifically rental housing in the
Sand Point-Magnuson Park and University District areas and for-sale housing in the
University District - and to provide information to public and private developers as they
explore potential housing projects and partnerships.

The Montlake Report
In response to community concerns regarding east
campus development and the former site of the Montlake landfill, the University formed a
multi-agency work group to investigate the environmental and public health concerns
related to this site. The University of Washington's Environmental Health and Safety
Department (EH&S) facilitated this work group, which examined in depth all available
information relevant to the landfill operations.
