On May 25, Dream Project hosted its 10th annual Live the Dream scholarship reception at wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House on the University of Washington campus. At the ceremony, 23 students bound for one of the three UW campuses received $1,500 apiece to be used for tuition, books, housing or other educational expenses during their freshman year. Students were chosen by the scholarship selection committee to receive this award based on their leadership, participation in Dream Project and commitment to serving their community, among other factors. The Live the Dream scholarship presentation is a celebration of the scholar’s resilience, leadership and accomplishments both in and outside of the classroom.

Scholars were joined at the celebration by their families, counselors, Dream Project mentors, community members and leaders from across the University of Washington. Led by graduating Dream Project leaders, the ceremony consisted of previously recorded interviews from each of the recipients and speeches by several guest speakers, including current and former recipients. Leanne Wiles, the director of First Year Programs, officially welcomed the scholars to the University of Washington. As they stood to be recognized, she reminded them that they already have a support system at the UW — the people standing across from them. Together, these students will enter the University of Washington’s Class of 2020, not only as established leaders and accomplished scholars, but as part of the Dream Project family.
