Welcome Center + Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture

As close neighbors in the northwest corner of the UW’s Seattle campus, the Ana Mari Cauce Welcome Center and the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture will have new opportunities to engage through proximity and partnership.

Each year, tens of thousands of visitors come to the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture to engage with the museum’s natural history and culture collections — learning from UW researchers, Indigenous and Tribal partners, artists and educators. The Burke Museum will remain open to visitors during construction of the Welcome Center.

Just as the Burke connects us to our shared history and culture, so, too, the Welcome Center will invite us into conversation about our present and future:

  • The Welcome Center will offer expanded space and a new auditorium for lectures, tours and events.
  • A new and vital expanded outdoor gathering space will connect the two. Nestled between the trees, this new common area will host events, experiences and opportunities to bring together alumni, current and prospective students and the entire community.

The Welcome Center will proudly illustrate how the histories of these lands, the state of Washington and the UW are interwoven into a story told and shaped by us all.
