Hans Rosling Center for Population Health hosting climate resilience art piece

Image of Seaman's paintingThe Hans Rosling Center for Population Health hosted the Climate Resilience Art Showcase on Thursday, November 17, 2021 – in partnership with EarthLab, the Climate Impacts Group and the Northwest Climate Adaptation Science Center – that featured the unveiling of a painting by Claire Sianna Seaman of Leavenworth that depicts climate resilience and its relationship with people and communities in the Pacific Northwest.

The Climate Impacts Group sought an artist at the beginning of 2021 to create a commissioned piece on climate resilience in the Northwest. Their vision was to showcase a 2D art piece that illustrates the hope of a society adapted to the rapidly increasing effects of climate change through the depiction of infrastructure adjustments, decarbonization efforts and other solution methods being implemented into communities and ecosystems in the Northwest.

Seaman’s art captures this vision through a large three-panel painting that illustrates a thriving community and Northwest natural environment having overcome negative effects of climate change, such as drought and forest fires. The hope is that this piece inspires action and creates community around climate resilience by communicating the importance of effective climate science to create a healthier, more equitable and more sustainable future.

The painting is being displayed temporarily in the Rosling Center for the next three months. Anyone interested in viewing the piece can see it in person outside Room 101, which is located in the building’s southeast corner.
