Supporting Students with Disabilities

In addition to providing assistance and support to current UW students, Student Life’s Disability Resources for Students department serves as a key resource and collaborator to UW faculty and staff to ensure that appropriate academic accommodations are in place and effective.

As you may know, faculty have several rights and responsibilities when it comes to providing accommodations and accessible materials to students, and DRS is here to provide the information and support you need in doing so.

Services for faculty include (but are not limited to):

  • Troubleshooting/Assistance with establishing classroom accommodations
  • Facilitation of extended time and low-stimuli testing environments
  • Consultation on how best to work with various types of disabilities
  • Assistance with accessible course materials
  • Training & educational resources

If you have questions, run into problems establishing an accommodation, or don’t know where to start, DRS can provide the resources you need to help you ensure compliance with the law, integrate accommodations and accessible materials, and most importantly – provide the support your students needs so that they can be fully engaged in your class.
