High School Mathematics Academy

The College of Engineering Mathematics Academy helps high-achieving high school juniors develop the math and problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in engineering and exposes students to engineering in practice. Open to all students, the Math Academy especially targets underrepresented minorities in engineering including African American, Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander and female students. Applications are being accepted for summer 2011 and are due by March 2, 2011.

A new month means the premiere of a new line up of visual essays on UW360. Tune in to cable channel 27 at 10 pm on Wednesdays to view photographs from pre-WWII Japan; savor the story of Fran’s Chocolates; explore the Penny Arcade Expo; see UW gymnast Kristen Linton in action; take a peek inside the Drama School’s costume shop and learn about cutting edge research on designer proteins. Obama Inauguration Speaker Elizabeth Alexander at Kane Hall

On Thursday, January 27 at 6:30 p.m, you are invited to join Elizabeth Alexander, who recited her poem, “Praise Song for the Day” at Barack Obama’s inaugural address, as she shares her views on the future of diversity as it relates to the arts. One in a series of free public lectures sponsored by the Graduate School, “Hearing America Singing: Multi-Vocal Cultures in America” will be presented in Kane Hall, Room 130.
