The UW Alumni Association invites all Huskies who graduated 50 or more years ago to gather and celebrate your enduring Husky connection. Join us on the UW’s scenic campus for a buffet-style lunch, good company and plenty of Purple Pride.
Two-time Pulitzer Prize Award winner for editorial cartooning David Horsey, ’75, is the recipient of the 2026 Golden Graduate Distinguished Alumnus. Among his many credits, Horsey recently published his first novel, “Beach of Stars,” which Timothy Egan, ’81, praised as “amazingly good.”

About David Horsey, ’75

2026 Golden Graduate Distinguished Alumnus
David Horsey is a Pulitzer Prize–winning editorial cartoonist and respected voice in American journalism. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Known for his sharp political insight and distinctive illustration style, Horsey has contributed to major publications including the Los Angeles Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The University of Washington presents him with the Golden Graduate Distinguished Alumnus Award.
About the award presenter

Christine Harold is Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication. Her scholarship analyzes the rhetoric of consumer capitalism and explores opportunities for meaningful political action in a world increasingly defined by the logic of the marketplace. See Christine’s full bio.
About the student speaker

Morgan Bortnick serves as The Daily’s Editor-in-Chief, leading a team of over 200 reporters, photographers, designers, videographers, and podcasters providing reliable campus coverage five days a week. Prior to this position. Morgan served as the News Editor, providing fair and comprehensive news stories.

Every year, the Golden Graduates Distinguished Alumni Award honors one alum from 50 or more years past who has demonstrated sustained, long-term and meaningful engagement with the UW.
