Join us at the Grand Cinema in Tacoma’s historic district for a showing of the playful, Academy Award-winning documentary, “My Octopus Teacher.”  After the film, stay for a short talk with nature documentarian and marine biologist, Samantha-Lynn Martinez, ’25.

“My Octopus Teacher” follows the story of a diver who spent a year immersed in the life of a wild octopus. Jane Goodall called it, “Absolutely unbelievable. One of the best movies ever.”

Wildlife Storytelling in Action with Samantha-Lynn Martinez, ’25

Samantha-Lynn Martinez is a nature documentarian and marine biologist based in Seattle, WA. Whether it’s through filmmaking, photography, or design, she believes that sharing stories and communicating science in beautiful-yet-effective ways is critical in our modern society. Samantha-Lynn has worked on multimedia productions ranging from camera/film to illustration and design, and her training as a marine ecologist has given her ample time on research vessels in all kinds of remote locations.
