2025 international alumni annual report

Recapping alumni engagement in the last year

If you didn’t know it already, we’ll tell you in no uncertain terms: the Husky Spirit is alive and well all around the globe! Last year, UW alumni across the world organized nearly 50 events with over 850 attendees. From our first alumni-led reception in New Delhi, to a mezcal tasting event in Beijing, to alumni pickleball sessions all over Asia, to football watch parties, lectures, social mixers, faculty visits, and much more, our UW alumni found countless and creative ways to connect in 2025.

All these many in-person gatherings were both supplemented and facilitated by a robust and diverse online infrastructure. Our international UW alumni Facebook pages have over 4,100 followers in aggregate, with another 3,800 China Huskies on Weibo. Nearly 3,600& alumni connect with one another in chat groups on WeChat, WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk, and over 500 alumni make the global Husky network part of their own professional networks via our LinkedIn groups. It’s a good reminder that, no matter where you are in the world, the UW alumni community is never more than a few clicks or taps away.

This year we also told countless stories about the ways UW is making an impact on the world and Huskies around the world are making an impact on the UW. The Husky Global newsletter reached nearly 10,000 UW alumni and friends from every corner of the earth and our Out & About section featured dozens of alumni events, gatherings and updates.

Our Growing Community

Last year, shortly after we welcomed the Shenzhen alumni chapter to the fold in 2024, we were pleased to recognize the Jiangsu alumni chapter as our newest official alumni chapter. Led by Yating Zhuang (President) and Jialin “Bryan” Zuo (VP), with board members Hao Tang, Chen “Paul” Yao and Zhou Yu, the Jiangsu alumni chapter is our fourth official chapter in mainland China and our 11th globally.

The Jiangsu alumni are pioneering a new model for alumni engagement, working at the province level (rather than the city-specific level that earlier chapters generally stick to). About once a quarter, the Jiangsu chapter has held an event in a different city in the eastern coastal province: an inaugural social gathering in Suzhou, a visit to the Hopkins-Nanjing Center last summer, a weekend tour of the historic city of Yangzhou in the fall. Their work has already raised broader interest from Husky alumni elsewhere about the possibility of alumni trips outside of capital cities and collaboration between alumni chapters. (If this resonates with you, feel free to reach out to us anytime as thought partners!)

The dedicated volunteer work of our 83 chapter board members remains foundational to the thriving of our alumni chapters. These loyal Husky alumni make all this fellowship and connection possible. Beyond our official chapters, we continue to work with enthusiastic alumni on building emerging alumni communities across India and Canada, as well as in the UK.
