Salary Payments and Employment Periods for Academic Personnel

(Approved by the Provost and Executive Vice President by authority of Executive Order No. 4)



1.  Nine-Month Service Period

Academic personnel who serve on a nine-month basis receive their salaries in 18 payments. Their services are assumed to cover a period of nine months (three periods of three months each) running from September 16 through June 15. They receive twice monthly payments starting on or about October 10 and concluding on or about June 25.

Members of the faculty on nine-month appointments are expected to report for duty September 16, unless arranged otherwise with the department chair or dean, and to remain on duty up to and including commencement, unless properly excused.

2.  Twelve-Month Service Period

Faculty members on twelve-month appointments are paid after each month of service. A twelve-month faculty appointment consists of 11 months' salary paid in 24 installments for 11 months' service; it covers a period running from July 1 through June 30.

3.  Temporary Appointees

Temporary appointees on a quarter-to-quarter basis are employed for three months effective September 16 through December 15, December 16 through March 15, and March 16 through June 15, depending upon the service required.

4.  Leaves of Absence

Leaves of absence for a quarter or more are generally based on the above dates.
