PERFORMING ARTS OF THE BLACK ARTS
MOVEMENT, THE SIBLING MOVEMENT OF
THE BLACK POWER MOVEMENT. EACH WEEK
STUDENTS WILL RIGOROUSLY ENGAGE WIT
IN-DEPTH READING ASSIGNMENTS AND
SENSORY ACTIVITIES IN CLASS. THEMES
COVERED INCLUDE:
ANTI-BLACK VIOLENCE
GENDER ROLES
SELF-LOVE
SOCIOECONOMIC INEQUITY
BLACK EMPOWERMENT.
THE WORK OF ARTISTS WILL BE
DISCUSSED SUCH AS:
LARRY NEAL
SONIA SANCHEZ
SUN RA
KATHERINE DUNHAM
BARBARA JONES-HOGU.
EACH STUDENT WILL EXAMINE THESE
PIECES OF ARTWORK AS IT PERTAINS TO
THE OUTSTANDING IMPACTS AFRICAN
AMERICANS CONTRIBUTED IN AMERICAN
SOCIETY.
