Memorial for UW-IT’s R.L. “Bob” Morgan

A memorial for R.L. “Bob” Morgan, 57, an expert in “identity management” for UW Information Technology, will be held in Kane Hall 225 (the Walker-Ames Room) at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 29. He died July 12 during cancer treatment at UW Medical Center.

Besides his work in identity management, which provides the foundation for safe access to digital resources such as email and online banking, he also was recognized internationally for his work in “federated identity,” a more secure approach to accessing Internet services.

Morgan also was an active member of the Internet Engineering Task Force, the group that sets technology standards for the Internet, and of Internet2, the organization that operates the nation’s premier research and education network.

He also was an accomplished sea kayaker and bread maker.

Survivors include his wife, Eve Perara; daughters Annika and Julia; and his brother, Mike.

Memorial contributions may be made to the “Donations for Bob Morgan” account at Washington State Employees Credit Union, a college fund for his daughters.
