Crittenden twice honored


Dr. Robert Crittenden, chief of the family medicine service at Harborview Medical Center and UW professor of family medicine, has received the 2006 Advocate Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine at the group’s annual meeting in San Francisco. He was honored for contributions to family medicine education, especially in health policy activism and mentoring. He was also commended for “tireless advocacy toward improving health care for the nation’s uninsured and underserved populations.”

Crittenden also recently received the Cynthia Shurtleff Award from the Washington state Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition, which is now changing its name to Within Reach.


Novak receives award


Dr. L. Charles Novak, UW clinical professor of anesthesiology and attending physician at Harborview Medical Center, has received the Excellence in Government Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists for his contributions to the specialty and patients. He received the award last month at the organization’s legislative conference.


Curtis rising in Thoracic Society


Dr. J. Randall Curtis, professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, has been elected secretary-treasurer of the American Thoracic Society, which puts him on track to become president of the organization in 2009-10. The ATS is the premier scientific and clinical organization for pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. Two other members of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division have been presidents of the ATS: Drs. Leonard Hudson and Thomas Martin.
