Johnnella Butler to speak May 10

Johnnella Butler, associate dean and associate vice provost of the Graduate School, will present a talk on her book, Color-Line to Borderlands: The Matrix of American Ethnic Studies, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 in the Faculty Club conference room. The talk, sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Education, will be followed by a book signing.

Butler is also professor of American Ethnic Studies and adjunct professor in the English and Women Studies Departments at the UW. Nationally recognized for her active work in curriculum change and development, she is both the editor of and a contributor to Color-Line to Borderlands. Butler has been the recipient of major grants from the Fund for Improvement in Post-Secondary Education, the Ford Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities and is one of three editors of the first-ever Encyclopedia of American Studies, published jointly by Grolier Press and the American Studies Association.

The talk is free and open to the public.
