Workshop will talk about aging and exercise

Older adults are invited to a half-day seminar, “Exercise, Health and Aging,” that will offer plenty of practical tips about exercise. The seminar will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 3, at the Shoreline Center. Speakers will include Mary Ann Wilson, whose exercise program “Sit and Be Fit” is a fixture on public television.

The program is sponsored by University of Washington Medical Center’s Strong and Steady program. Strong and Steady provides older adults with tools to maintain or increase their level of independent physical function.

“Exercise is an extremely important way for seniors to protect their health. We expect that this seminar will provide a lot of useful information and dispel a lot of myths,” says Gayle Bouvet, UW Medical Center’s physical therapist supervisor.

Other topics and speakers include:

Exercise, Health and Aging: Dr. Eric Larson, UW professor of medicine, medical director of UW Medical Center and medical advisor to the Strong and Steady program.

Exercise and Arthritis: Dr. Gregory Gardner, associate professor of medicine, Division of Rheumatology.

Motivation: How to Get Started and Keep Going: Dr. Anne Shumway-Cook, associate professor of medicine, Division of Physical Therapy.

There is a $10 registration fee per person. For a more information and a registration brochure, contact Bouvet at 206-598-6738.
