New UW alumni executive director appointed

The University of Washington and the UW Alumni Association announced today the appointment of David P. Fagerlie as the new assistant vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the University of Washington Alumni Association. Fagerlie is currently vice president for resource development of United Way of Central Indiana, a position he has held since 1994.

Fagerlie began his career with United Way of King County in 1984, serving as a planning consultant and campaign market manager until his promotion in 1991 to chief professional officer of United Way of Hancock County in Findlay, Ohio. Prior to working at United Way, Fagerlie was director of social services of the Tacoma Lutheran Home and Retirement Community from 1977 to 1984.

Fagerlie earned a bachelor of science degree in 1976 from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He earned a master of social work degree from the University of Washington in 1981.

“David’s experience and knowledge of the non-profit sector and his work over two decades with volunteers provide a strong foundation for assuming the leadership of the alumni association,” said UW Vice President for University Relations Bob Edie. “He came through a very competitive national search process and emerged as the individual we believe can provide exciting and creative leadership for our alumni relations program.”

“We are very fortunate to have attracted an individual of David’s skill and experience,” said UW Alumni Association President Larry Matsuda. “The association has a full agenda of providing service to its members and to the University, and we are very pleased that David will be leading our organization in new directions for years to come.”

“I am very honored to have been selected for this position,” said Fagerlie. “The University has meant more to me than I can possibly say. I had a wonderful and transforming educational experience there, and I hope through hard work and dedication to give something back to such an important and vital resource in the northwest.”

The UW Alumni Association is a 50,000 member organization that supports 55 alumni clubs in the United States and 10 international clubs. In addition to providing an array of services to its members, it also supports the University and its programs in a variety of ways.
