The University is taking great care to preserve the health and history of this land’s canopy and understory, including special care for old-growth cedar trees and the London Plane trees along Memorial Way. The UW is also ensuring proper care for the carved story poles and art installations in this area.
Walking and public transportation are great options.
Like other areas throughout the University, the Ana Mari Cauce Welcome Center will prioritize safe and reliable pedestrian access. The Welcome Center will be located just up the street from the U District light rail station — about a 3-minute walk — and many bus routes serve the area.
The Welcome Center is working with UW Transportation Services to provide parking and alternative transportation options to the site during construction. Visit the Transportation Services website for information.
When the Welcome Center is open, the UW will provide dedicated accessible parking in the area, as well as clearly marked access for visitors arriving via public transportation. Additional information may be available as Welcome Center construction nears completion.
